* Diy - Get Listed Ahead Of Your Competition *

Hi Diy,

One thing that will help your listing come out ahead of
your competition (even if you have the same exact keywords)
is by beginning the "title" of your site with an "A" or a number.

Some search engines and web directories will alphabetize (by
web page title) "ties" on keyword listings. So a web site
titled "Amazing Beauty Tips" will have a better listing position
than a web site titled "Wendy's Cosmetic's Tips" when the same
keywords are on both pages.

Try to figure out a way to name your site starting with a number
or "A" and that will give you a difficult to overcome (and hard
to detect for the average web site owner) competitive edge. Do
note that not all search engines take the same approach
regarding alphabetizing. Many don't consider single characters
part of a title or a keyword.

So therefore just because your site is titled "A Wonderful Site" and
you have the exact keywords as "Victors Wonderful Site" doesn't mean
your site will be listed first. In fact, many search engines will
list you towards the bottom where the "W's" are and "Victors Web
Page" would be listed first. To get around this try naming your site
something like "An Amazing And Wonderful Site" ...

Get the idea? Also, do note that most search engines, web directories
and sites take a whole another approach to positioning. It doesn't
matter what you name your web page. The main thing that matters is
keywords, descriptions, relevant incoming links and keyword phrasing.

Many use keywords, but most fail to phrase those keywords.

For example. Let's say you use these keywords: antique, automobiles,
cars, exotic.

This may look perfectly well, but it is entirely wrong. Nowadays
people are using the power of the search engines and are searching
by phrase. Let's say someone searches for these keywords: antique
automobiles.

If the searcher is searching on "all" the words, the above site
using "antique, automobiles, cars, exotic" as keywords, would be
listed because it does contain "all" the words. But what if the
searcher were to search by phrase? You would not be listed in the
search results.

How do you get around this? It's really quite simple. Think about
how you wish a searcher to find you. Think about how they will
find you. Then incorporate these keywords and keyword phrases in
your descriptions, keywords and website.

This is what I would do for keywords: antique automobiles exotic
cars.

Did you notice I didn't use commas (,)? Keyword phrases will not
work with commas unless of course the searcher uses them. I know
you see sites say separate your keywords by a comma.

DON'T do it!

Now using the above keywords I will have a better chance of being
seen whether a searcher uses "all" the words, "any" of the words
or even if they search by "phrase" (which is becoming much more
popular these days).

Don't stop with your keywords. Use this same technique when putting
together your description and web site's content.

The content is king so most of all concentrate on building website
that interests your visitors.

Here's few tips ...

List your important keywords more than once on your site!

Some of the major search engines will rank your web site
based on the relevancy of the keywords used in the search
engine. For example, if your site sells Ray Ban sunglasses
and the words "Ray Ban" are keywords listed on your page,
your site will come up when a user searches for "Ray Ban".
And the same for a competitive Web site with the same keywords.

However, if you list Ray Ban not once but several times
throughout your page, your site is more "relevant" to the
search for the user and usually will get better positioning
than the site who has it listed less times than you.

Another keyword that I feel is the most important keyword
is your business name. Many web site owners often forget
about this keyword. Think about this for a moment. Let's
say you are new to the Internet and your provider allows
you to search the net using Google. You heard that AT&T
had a web site, but you don't have a clue about the URL.

While at Google you could type the keyword "AT&T" and
guess what you will find? That's right ... AT&T's URL.

If you have invested money in your business name and your
contacts know your name so why not give them the opportunity
to find you that way?

Many web professionals list some of their relevant keywords
as many times as they possibly can throughout their site
because of this very reason. You can also achieve this by
listing your relevant keywords whenever they fit in your text.

It may take a little longer for your page to load, but the
extra attention your site receives because of the higher
search engine positioning should outweigh the couple of
seconds of extra downloading that this causes.

WARNING:

Don't list your keywords at the bottom of your web page using
small font and same color than your background eventhough you
may have seen this on other web sites.

Most search engines consider this method as a spam and your
site will not be listed ... or you may get your site
black-listed but that's something you don't want to happen!

your URL in all your documents, advertisements,
and in any other materials you use to interact
with your peers, friends, and customers.

Locate appropriate web sites in your area of

Almost all sites will do this for free, particularly
if you agree to list them at your site.

Signature File:

Include your Web site name and URL to your signature
file. So every time you post an e-mail or a newsgroup
message, your URL will be available to everyone, and
perhaps they will check out the Web site.

When making signature file remember to include
http:// in front of your website URL. At the same time
check that you have mailto: before your e-mail address.
The links will then show hyperlinked and clickable in
most of the e-mail browsers and programs.

Guest Books:

When you come across a quality Web site that has
a guest book, sign it!

Many variations of guest books exists, and many contain
a field to add your URL. Your URL will be seen by the web
site owner and the visitors of that web site.

Do that especially if the web site has similar theme
than you do because that way you will be receiving free
relevant links pointing directly to your web site ...

There are many variables included in receiving good
positions in search engines. One of them is that the more
quality web sites have links to your web site the higher
your site will end up in search engine results and the
more traffic you will get to your site!

Remember, the above are free promotions to your web site.

Keep in mind, thousands of new web surfers are coming
on-line weekly. At first, they most likely will not have
a home page, but they could bookmark your web site.

In time, they will set up a home page, and just maybe,
your Web site will show up in their hot list on their
web site.

Affiliate, Here's Your 7 Steps To Adwords Success!

Tune-Up Your Adwords Account in 7 Steps!

Every day I get emails from marketers using Adwords to
promote their business, and it's not working out nearly the
way that they had hoped...  Dismal click through rates
(CTR), barely workable click costs, and no matter what
they do, they can't "figure out" the Adwords sy
stem.

While Adwords is a phenomenal way to get laser-targeted
traffic to your site, it does have a steep learning curve...
And that's pretty daunting when it's your own time and money
on the line!

I've boiled Adwords down to the following seven step
checklist.  Although it's not intended to be a cure-all for
every Adwords problem, these seven steps are the first to
take to make serious headway on your account!

1) Are you split-testing both your Adwords ads and your
sales letter or landing page?

This is the biggest error of them all!  When I say "split-
testing" does your blood curl, or do horrific memories of
high school algebra class flash into your head?  It doesn't
have to be that way!

Testing is, in essence, simple.  By "simple" I mean that all
you want to do is figure out whether ad "A" is better than
ad "B".  The definition of "better" being more clicks or
sales.  That's it!

Begin split-testing by making sure that every adgroup
in every campaign has two ads in it.  Depending on the size
of your account, this could take a while, but trust me, it's
well worth it.

After a while, each ad will have a different number of
clicks and a different CTR.

Now use the free tool at http://www.splittester.com. Plug in
your CTR and number of clicks, and it will run a statistical
test telling you how confident you can be in the results.
(In advertising, we usually use the 95% confidence level.)

After you've determined which ad is better, you've got your
"control" ad.  Now, write a new ad, and attempt to beat your
control.

For split-testing your sales page or landing page, there are
tons of available scripts, both free and paid.  In some
cases, your shopping cart system or ad tracker will have
this feature built in.

Continue to repeat this process on both your Adwords ads and
your sales pages or landing pages and you'll quickly notice
an enormous cumulative effect.

2) Are you using all the potential keywords in your market,
not just the obvious ones?

If you don't have at least 500 to 1,000 keywords, you're
leaving highly targeted traffic on the table!  Don't be
content to only use the 10 to 20 major keywords and phrases.
For example, I have a campaign that has 2,015 keywords --
all to sell an ebook on how to get rid of bronchitis!  I
recommend you do your keyword research with
http://www.keywordtopia.com, my personal favorite.

Keyword phrases that are two to five words long are called
"long tail" keywords.  Individually, each one may only
account for a few clicks a month, but together represent a
massive amount of traffic.

(In next month's article I'll reveal a super-slick way to
spy on your competitors and find out exactly what keywords
they're already using on Adwords!)

3) Do you use the three match types and negative keywords?

Do you know what brackets and quotation marks have to do
with Adwords?  Many advertisers lose targeted clicks by
only using what is called "broad match".

If you're not tripling your keyword list by using phrase
match (putting the keyword in quotes) and exact match
(putting the keyword in brackets) you're losing out on
traffic that is much more targeted and relevant than just
using broad match!

In fact, some savvy advertisers delete their broad match
keywords and solely use phrase and exact match to increase
their ROI.

Negative keywords are words and phrases used to prevent your
ad from showing on unrelated or untargeted searches.

Say, for example, you're selling Condos in Costa Rica and
one of your keyword phrases is "Costa Rica".  You'll save
yourself tons on your Adwords bill by using negative
keywords like, -surfing, -travel, and -tourism.

This will prevent your ad from showing if someone searches
for "Costa Rica Surfing" or "Costa Rica Travel", and that's
good because those searchers probably aren't interested in
what you have to offer.

4) Do you have your keywords and adgroups organized
correctly?

Do you have only a couple of adgroups per campaign, stuffed
with hundreds (or thousands) of keywords?  If so, this is
hampering your results!

Relevance is key on Adwords.  And since it's impossible to
write ads that are targeted and specific for hundreds of
different keywords, you need to "break out" keywords into
their own adgroups.  For high traffic keywords, this could
mean one keyword, with the three different match types, per
adgroup.  For lower traffic keywords, have no more than 15
to 21 keywords per adgroup.

After you "break out" the keywords into new adgroups, write
more focused ads, using the keywords as much as possible in
the ads.  Your CTRs will raise across the board.

5) Are you using the content network effectively?

A common fallacies that you hear is that you should only
have the "search network" turned on and the "content
network" turned off.  It's true that the traffic from the
content network in some markets doesn't convert into sales
as well, but that's not always so.  I have several clients
where the content network converts better than search.  How
will you know?  You won't, until you test!  Adjust your bids
for the content network up or down until it reaches your
desired cost to make a sale or get a lead, but to get those
numbers you'll need to read the next step...

6) Do you have conversion tracking turned on?

Not all keywords are created equal!  Some keywords convert
into sales at 3 to 9 times as often as others.  Setting up
"conversion tracking" inside your account will tell you
exactly which keyword is responsible for a sale.  If you
don't have either conversion tracking, Google Analytics or
some third-party tool in place, you'll never know.  Pareto's
principle, or the 80/20 rule, applies to Adwords as well.  A
small portion of your keywords are bringing in most of your
sales.  Wouldn't you like to know which keywords to nurture
and grow, and which ones to delete?

7)  Do you adjust your bids by keyword?

Again, not all keywords are created equal!  Every keyword
will convert into a sale or lead at a different rate.

cost per sale that works for your business.  You'll find
that some keywords won't work, even if you get the click for
